The Salpeterer fought for democracy and human rights almost 300 years ago. Salpeter "Michael Eckert" reveals the special role this struggle played in our region and in Herrischried with a great deal of empathy, enthusiasm and passion. The Salpeterer Tour - a moving journey to the freedom fighters
Michael Eckert, a farmer and saltpetre worker by trade, was a passionate freedom fighter. In the 18th century, saltpetre workers went from farm to farm in the Hotzenwald. Here they collected the calcium nitrate needed for the production of black powder from the walls of the stables. A tedious labour that Michael Eckert also pursued as a sideline alongside the many demands of his farming.
With great empathy, enthusiasm and passion, the Herrischried saltpetre worker Michael Eckert tells of the saltpetre workers' struggle for democracy and human rights 300 years ago. The rebellion of the local farmers, the resistance against the neighbouring monastery of St. Blasien's striving for power and the dissolution of a once extraordinary unity of the Hotzenwald farmers is presented in an exciting and entertaining performance against the backdrop of the Klausenhof open-air museum.
After this exciting journey through time, we serve our delicious Salpeterer feast, if optionally desired.
