The monastery school, the Maulbronn Protestant Seminary, has now been in existence for over 450 years. Over the centuries, a number of famous personalities have emerged from the ranks of the pupils, later known as seminarians. The 10 Maulbronn Heads are now a memorial to them. The portrait busts are intended to remind visitors to Maulbronn that the monastery school was able to give its seminarians decisive impulses in their early years. The Schafhof, the former farmyard of the monastery and home to the Maulbronn History and Local History Association (GHV) and the Heinrich Art Museum, proved to be the ideal location. The portrait busts on display were created from stucco originals by Hatto Zeidler (Hohenklingen), then moulded and patinated in colour by Christoph Zeidler (Düsseldorf). The book "Maulbronn Heads" by Hansjörg Ziegler, published in 1987, was a decisive impulse for Hatto Zeidler to create the portrait busts.
