The name is actually based on a legend about the Hun King Attila: “In 451, Attila marched victoriously with his troops to Gaul and also stopped off in Breisach. He was served fiery wine from the nearby Tuniberg. Two years later, Attila died in a battle on the Rhine and was buried in a triple coffin under a mound of earth on the Tuniberg.”
On April 1, 1955, Attila's grave was allegedly found as part of the vineyard consolidation. Legend or truth?
In any case, Attila gave his name to the viewpoint, a vineyard and a street in Niederrimsingen. Local artist Rainer Stiefvater also created a sculpture of Attila, which was ceremoniously unveiled on April 1, 1979.
Events are held regularly throughout the year at the Attila rock above Niederrimsingen and Oberrimsingen, including a small festival with a fire organized by the Tuniberg Wein e.V. at Easter and at the end of autumn.
