The trail leads through Ellbachstraße and over the Murgbrücke bridge up to Breitmiss. Enjoy the beautiful view of the Ellbach valley. You soon reach the particularly scenic Bösellbach valley with the Ellbachbrunnen fountain and the arched bridge, which was built in 1871. From there, the trail leads steadily uphill along the impressive cascades of the Bösellbach stream.
The Bösellbach got its name because it repeatedly caused great damage to the inhabitants of Mitteltal through numerous floods. Over the course of time, however, they terraced the Bösellbach in order to contain the constant flooding. Today, this is a particularly beautiful sight.
Passing the Jakobsbrunnen fountain, you finally reach the Bösellbachhütte hut and the mysterious Sauerbrunnen fountain. This is so yellow in colour because it is a sulphur spring.
The route continues uphill. You soon reach the highest point of the tour. Here you will find a celestial lounger with a fantastic view, which invites you to linger in fine weather. Past the Plon site, the route leads downhill to the Upper Vault. Here the path branches off to the right and leads to a hidden waterfall. The Rosshimmel waterfall flows over a karst wall of a silted-up karst lake and the water varies greatly. Depending on how much rain has fallen on the previous days, the waterfall can be thunderous or just babble gently. From the basin of the silted-up cirque lake, the trail climbs briefly once again.
After a few hundred metres, you finally reach the idyllic Ellbachsee lake. Enjoy an extended break here on the lakeshore. Ellbachsee is one of the few cirque lakes that is still filled with water. See the author's tip here.
The hike leads through the Gutellbach valley back towards Mitteltal. In the Gutellbach stream, you can still recognise the devastating force with which hurricane Lothar raged here in 1999. A little later, you can see the mighty Ellbach fir tree, which withstood this force of nature. Passing fountains and springs, you finally reach the course of the Guten Ellbach stream. Here you have to cross the stream once on large stepping stones. The path leads along the stream to the deer enclosure and the confluence of the Good and Bad Ellbach streams. You finally return to the starting point of the hike along the Ellbach. The trail offers interesting information on the boards of the adventure trail springs and plots.
