History
The Bank'sche Haus dates back to 1707 and is one of the oldest houses in Kirchzarten. The Bank family lived here until 1959. Before the Bank'sche GbR bought it, the building stood empty for several years.
Design
The listed building with its blackened smoke kitchen on two levels, the old living room (with two Herrgottswinkels) and an ancient tiled stove from 1820, as well as the outside balcony, which used to lead directly into the servants' quarters, has been renovated in an exemplary manner.
The windows in the parlours with the old Baden window strip were modelled on the old original windows.
Some of the walls and ceilings in the living rooms were painted white, also for the sake of brightness. One of the parlours was given a glass conservatory clad in metal as a modern extension. All the old building fabric that was no longer there or needed to be replaced was modernised with glass and metal. Modern bathrooms were installed. All the beams were sandblasted and the roof was given a wooden shingle roof - in keeping with the classic Black Forest house. The large, spacious attic room was fitted with a large glass wall on one side and additional skylights to provide light. The attic is accessed via an external metal staircase.
With an inner shell as insulation, the "Haus Bank" fulfils the requirements of a KFW 70 energy standard house despite being 400 years old.
The bottom line
A successful example of contemporary living in a historic Black Forest farmhouse. The single-roofed Black Forest farmhouse has been preserved as an important heritage of the region and brought to life.
