Mosses, ferns and bilberries grow luxuriantly. Rivulets meander through moor and forest. There are small footbridges and bridges to cross. 15 story, play and information stations make the trail a marvellous nature experience for the whole family.
Like a fairytale forest
Narrow paths wind through the forest, footbridges bridge small streams. Cottongrass, berry bushes, soft dark green moss cushions and gnarled roots cover the forest floor. The Taubenmoos beckons with enchanting corners. The right place to tell stories. Here you can learn about the once sunken monastery in the moor with its clamouring monks or about the Schweinewiibli, which lured drunken farmers to their nightly doom. If you walk carefully through the enchanted forest, you are sure to find countless wooden animals. Can you spot them all? A fox, badger, stag, squirrel, woodpecker, chamois, wolf, capercaillie and many more wooden animals are waiting for you.
Become a ranger
Build dams on the forest stream, climb trees, build huts, collect berries and discover mushrooms: Children become rangers on the enchanted forest trail. The attraction is Merlin, the great wizard. The three metre tall wooden sculpture majestically watches over the plants, animals and people in the Taubenmoos. Display boards provide information about unusual animals, rare plants and special features of the moorland nature reserve, such as the high moorland yellowfinch, Hinterwald cattle or the bog bilberry. And the Taubenmoos is also the coldest place in Baden-Württemberg, at the edge of the trail in a depression in the moor.
From the forest to the pasture with a view of thehighvalley
On the last third of the trail, the Magic Forest Trail leads from the green of the forest into the pasture landscape of the Bernau high valley. The view of the wide valley 900 metres above sea level, whose meadows, pastures and forests extend up to the 1,415-metre-high Herzogenhorn, is wonderful. Children can play and enjoy a cosy snack at the Hexenhüttle.
