The task was to develop a biomass power plant for the bio-energy village of Wart. This power plant is to supply the residents with heat and energy. Attached to the site is a solar park that will supply the power plant and its pumps with energy. It quickly became clear that wood would not only be important as an energy source, but also as a material for the construction. The external appearance of the building was to stand out clearly from the conventional CHP plants and its quality was to clearly define the purpose for which it was created; to develop dynamism, but to blend in with the surroundings of the wooded area. Thanks to the client - Stadtwerke Altensteig, which is owned by the town of Altensteig - this building is an example of building with citizens for citizens.
Material / construction
The local building material wood (spruce and fir) was used in both the construction and the cladding.
Bottom line
The biomass power plant is a building in the old tradition, when corresponding buildings for energy and technology still conveyed the value of their contents; designed and built by local companies using good craftsmanship for the benefit of the town's citizens.
