Bruderhöhle

The freely accessible Bruderhöhle cave north of Hirsau Monastery on the slope of the Nagold Valley is located in the Middle Bunter Sandstone and was formed by "weathering and undercutting of the solid conglomerate beds" (E. Fraas).

One literary source states that the cave was already inhabited by a hermit monk around 1480. You can still see a few man-made changes in the cave today. A massive stone bench stands in the entrance room, with a wall behind it. The most striking feature is the chimney, which rises upwards and must have been used for smoke extraction in the past.
