Buchenbach

Buchenbach is located in the Southern Black Forest Nature Park in the Dreisamtal holiday region, just outside Freiburg. From here, it is only a few minutes to the famous Höllental valley with its rugged, narrow gorges and the spectacular railway line, one of the steepest railway lines in Germany with a gradient of 5.5 %. The Lindenberg pilgrimage site is also an ideal hiking destination with marvellous views.

The municipality stretches from the Himmelreich to the wild and romantic Höllental and across the Wagensteig and Iben valleys to the St. Märgen plateau. Deep black forests, lush green meadows, over 100 km of hiking and walking trails, peace and relaxation, the best views for a holiday in the most beautiful countryside. Rural idyll and plenty of variety await you.

Buchenbach, the cosy, hospitable village in the Dreisamtal valley, lies directly to the east of Freiburg. The main town, as well as the neighbourhoods with their beautiful side valleys, nestle idyllically in the Black Forest landscape.
If you want to go hiking here, set off on a racing bike or mountain bike or spend a relaxing holiday with your family in the beautiful natural surroundings, Buchenbach is the place for you!
From hell to heaven? Anyone who takes the train from the Black Forest through the Höllental valley and gets off in Buchenbach-Himmelreich can do just that. From there, you can set off on wonderful cycling and hiking tours, e.g. on the Himmelreich-Jakobusweg trail with its gem, the Jakobuskapelle chapel dating back to 1590.
Groups interested in learning about life on Black Forest farms in the past are cordially invited to take part in an expert guided tour of the Hansmeyerhof.
