Liebenzell Castle was built at the beginning of the 12th century by the Counts of Eberstein to protect their possessions on the Nagold. The last knight appointed as bailiff by the Eberstein family, Ludwig von Liebenzell, left the castle to the Teutonic Knights in 1273. The latter sold it a year later to Margrave Rudolf von Baden.
At the beginning of the 16th century, the margraves moved their residence to the town of Bad Liebenzell. With the exception of the defiant tower and the shield wall, the castle fell into disrepair.
Liebenzell Castle was a ruin until 1953. For several decades, the idea of the founder of the International Forum Burg Liebenzell Mag. Dr H.c. Gustav-Adolf Gedat to create a place for international encounters has been realised for several decades. Young people from all over the world helped to rebuild the castle. One year later, the conference rooms and dormitories were ready for occupancy.
Today you can enjoy the marvellous view of the town of Bad Liebenzell. You can also visit the 34 metre high castle tower or enjoy the relaxing surroundings.
Please note: The castle tower is currently closed.
