Description
It is located on top of a former bastion of the gigantic city fortifications, built in the 17th century by the famous French master builder Sebastian de Vauban. The elevated position of the park on the foundation of the bastion is a reminder of the site's past.
Visitors to the park can relax on one of the many benches, shaded by chestnut trees around 70 years old, and observe the busy inner-city hustle and bustle at a comfortable distance. An educational wine trail provides information on many different varieties of grapes and reflects the site's former use as a vineyard. A small art nouveau palace housing the Museum for Prehistory and Early History is located on the western fringe of the park.
