The imposing structure is almost 400 metres long and was built as part of the 2004 State Garden Show as a cross-border project. It spans the Rhine, which is the official border between Germany and France, almost effortlessly.
Thanks to the Passerelle des Deux Rives, this border disappears for pedestrians and cyclists, who can move freely in both directions. Coming from Kehl by bike, you can easily reach Strasbourg Cathedral in around 20 minutes (approx. 6 km). And all this on well signposted cycle paths.
Extra tip: In the centre of the bridge, a viewing platform over the Rhine allows you to pause and admire the mighty river from a bird's eye view. With an average flow rate of 2,300 cubic metres per second, the merchant ships glide down the Rhine at an impressive speed.
