In the course of its more than 100 years of existence, the smallest local newspaper in southern Germany, the "Schwarzwälder Post" in Zell am Harmersbach, has undergone many technical revolutions. The printing museum, which opened in 2007 in the company's own historic vaulted cellar, bears witness to this.

Black on white - printing technology from 100 years ago

In the historic letterpress printing works, the publishers of the Schwarzwälder Post show how type was set with lead and wood type and how a magazine is laid out on a PC today. On display are machines for manual printing through to automation. The centrepiece is a newspaper printing press from the Johannisberg company from 1903, which was used to produce the newspaper until 1977.

Our tip: visitors can make their own cards on a hand printing press. Just like in the days of Johannes Gutenberg, all you need are letters, printing ink and an idea for a motif.
