An unmistakable blend of nature and culture casts a spell over visitors. Lovely valleys and rugged mountain peaks, rustic forests and moors, traditional mountain farms and a rich history can all be found in the nature park.
The municipality of Freiamt has designed the historical hiking trail in collaboration with the Freiamt local history association. The hiking trail fulfils the objectives of the Southern Black Forest Nature Park in an exemplary manner, which is why the project received significant financial support from the park. Here you can hike through history and familiarise yourself with it in beautiful natural surroundings.
The hiking trail focuses on the Middle Ages, which had a significant influence on the development of the municipality. The diversity of this development can be marvelled at on this hiking trail. Chapters that seemed to have been closed long ago can be reopened here, such as glassblowing or the right of free inheritance, which the lords of the Middle Ages granted to the people here in the valley and gave the municipality of Freiamt its name.
Interesting viewpoints of the Black Forest, Freiburg and the Vosges mountains accompany hikers on their journey through history.
