What is there to discover?
Mountain ranges on the northern edge of the municipality, the Rhine Valley opens up to the south, the Rhine glistens in the plain and the Alps in Switzerland greet you on the horizon when visibility is good. Hohentengen am Hochrhein is a recreational town offering many opportunities for leisure and holidays.
A network of hiking trails runs through the municipality. A hike along the cross-border sculpture trail on the German and Swiss sides is part of a holiday in our town. Well-maintained cycle paths, including to nearby Switzerland, invite you to enjoy beautiful day trips, e.g. to the Rhine Falls in Schaffhausen. The beach volleyball court is located next to the tennis courts directly on the Rhine. Two swimming pools located on the Rhine, school sports facilities, a water treading area, fishing in the Rhine and boat trips on the water invite you to stay in our holiday area.
Traces of beavers can be seen in the unspoilt nature along the banks of the Rhine; the kingfisher has found a new home here. Rare and protected plants such as the lady's slipper and several other orchid species bloom in hidden places on the southern slopes.
The catering in Hohentengen awaits you with delicacies from the kitchen and cellar. Characterful wines from Germany's most southerly vineyard, the Engelhof, round off the varied offer from our High Rhine region.
