As everywhere in the Black Forest, the mill wheels also rattled in the Unterkirnach district. More than 20 mills were once in operation. Gradually, these historic buildings fell into disrepair and soon there were no more mills. The people of Unterkirnach thought this was a great pity. They wanted to bring this old tradition closer to you, dear guests. They set out to look for an old mill in another Black Forest community. They found what they were looking for on a farm in the municipality of Todtmoos. From 1995 to 1997, the mill acquired in Todtmoos was lovingly restored and erected on the Kirnach, right in the centre of the village. The mill square was created and the mill was given its current name "Kirnachmühle".
You can get to know the mill and its history almost every Tuesday during the mill tours. Dates can be found in the Unterkirnach events calendar. There is a cosy mill parlour on the upper floor. It can be hired for events. Many bridal couples have been married in these historic and romantic rooms.
The master baker invites you to a very special event "As a guest at Mühlenbeck". Bake your own mill bread and learn all about bread baking. Then savour home-baked "souls" with fresh meat loaf together. Dates can also be found in the events calendar.
