The High Rhine, Dinkelberg and the edge of the Hotzenwald forest mark the area you will be travelling through on this tour. You start at Rheinfelden railway station and follow the High Rhine Valley eastwards to Karsau. From there, the route climbs up the Dinkelberg to the mythical site of the three holy virgins of Eichsel. Via Adelhausen, you head for the Hohe Flum (536 m), the highest peak of the Dinkelberg, which affords you a fantastic view over this hilly erosion landscape and extends the view eastwards to the Hotzenwald, the south-eastern foothills of the Black Forest.
In between lies the Wehratal valley, whose main town of Wehr you reach via the eastern slope of the Dinkelberg. From here, it would be a short detour up the valley to the Erdmannshöhle cave near Hasel. Our route then follows the Wehra back down to the High Rhine and Bad Säckingen. You return to the starting point in Rheinfelden via the Hochrhein cycle path past Schwörstadt, the Tschamberhöhle cave and Beuggen Castle. As an alternative, you can also choose the Swiss side with your own High Rhine route after crossing the Rhine at Stein, with the advantage of cycling even closer to the river.
