The listed former horse stable of the forestry administration in Forbach-Herrenwies has been extensively renovated and extended in recent years to become the second point of contact for visitors to the national park alongside the large national park centre at Ruhestein. The 80 square metre permanent exhibition "Wild Forests? A journey through time" focuses on the last 1,000 years in the northern Black Forest, from the wilderness to the different uses of the forest and the associated influences on the forest and forest images.
Stories are told about charcoal burners and raftsmen, the craft of the glassworks, emigration, the emergence of tourism and the creation of the national park - true stories from Herrenwies that are exemplary for many places in the Black Forest
The interactive exhibition can also be experienced in English and French.
Visitors can also visit the information desk to get tips for hikes or find out more about the national park. The district of Herrenwies, which belongs to the municipality of Forbach, is a central starting point for many hikes and winter sports activities.
