Ottersweier, situated in the heart of central Baden, between the Black Forest and the Rhine, is a community with all the advantages of a rural area. Embedded in the greenery of fruit trees, meadows and fields, with the nearby Black Forest always in sight, the town has developed into a residential community that radiates tranquillity, but where life nevertheless pulsates in many different ways.
The municipal area includes the districts of the formerly independent municipalities of Ottersweier (with the hamlets of Hub, Haft, Hard, Walzfeld and Oberhatzenweier), Hatzenweier, Unzhurst (with the staff community of Breithurst), Oberwasser and Zell.
In the village you will find an authentic and intact community life with various events organised by the citizens and the numerous active associations.
And there is something else that attracts people from far and wide to Ottersweier: the Maria-Linden pilgrimage church. The faithful have probably been making pilgrimages to Ottersweier since the early days of Christianisation, but this has been certain since 1484, when the church was built.
The business location is truly impressive. With 2,300 jobs, many businesses from trade, crafts and industry offer a broad mix of sectors. Ottersweier is also known far beyond its borders as a farm shop centre. A wide range of regional products can be purchased here.
If you are in the mood for peace and relaxation, you can explore the extensive municipal area with its suburbs on foot or by bike and indulge in the excellent gastronomy or enjoy the beautiful Black Forest landscape on many hiking trails in the municipal forest east of the Black Forest High Road - for example between Hundseck and Unterstmatt down to Hundsbach.
But if the local offerings are not enough, the neighbouring towns of Bühl or Achern are just a few minutes away. Baden-Baden, Karlsruhe and Strasbourg can be reached by car in less than an hour, and even Freiburg, the Breisgau metropolis, can be reached via the motorway in the same time.
