Beschreibung
A history filled with excitement, picturesque valleys, unspoilt nature – these are the characteristics of the premium trail „Der Teinacher“.
The tour starts at the outdoor-pool parking right at the entrance to the town of Bad Teinach. Just a few steps from there, on the Beerenweg, you will discover the beauty of nature and enjoy stunning views of the scenic Teinachtal valley.
Taking a short break at the Centennial Park Bench will remind you of the people having experienced cure of deseases in the Teinachtal for many years. Continue hiking through the Teinachtal for quite a while until you cross the brook over natural stepping stones and walk in the direction of the Mathildenanlage, representing a highlight of the gourmet trail. Accompanied by bizarre rock formations, dense forests and mystical places, this historical sight with resting places made of stone, known as the Mathildenstaffeln, leads up more than 600 steps to the Emberger Kopf.
The resting place of the Teinacher lookout was made from local timber. While taking a rest there, you can take a look at the bottling plant of the Bad Teinacher Mineralbrunnen GmbH mineral water.
From the Berghütte mountain hut you will already be able to catch a glimpse of the following destination, the impressive Zavelstein castle ruins, before reaching the fairy-tale part of this hike, the Wolfsschlucht gorge. The trail then ascends over sandstone steps to the ancient romantic town of Zavelstein with its charming castle ruins.
Back in the Teinachtal valley, you will be pleasantly surprised by the Adolfshöhe which had been built in a rather specific architectural style. Before returning to the starting point, enjoy tranquility, intact nature and the beauty of the landscape on a path leading directly along the Teinach brook. A quite demanding pleasure hike with a high level of enjoyment.

Route description
Detailed route description for the premium trail "Der Teinacher" - hiking in the northern Black Forest
An exciting past, idyllic valleys, unspoilt nature and beautiful views form the framework of the Black Forest gourmet trail and premium hiking trail "Der Teinacher". It is named after the Teinach river and the famous mineral water from Bad Teinach. We start our varied tour at the car park of the Teinach outdoor pool. There are plenty of free parking spaces available there.
A short ascent leads us onto the Beerenweg trail, where we can immediately enjoy our first view of the magnificent Teinach valley with the spa gardens and thermal baths of the ThermeTeinach hotel at the "Schöne Aussicht" hut. Along this pleasant panoramic trail, we are accompanied by the "Mooshäusle", the "verkehrte Häusle" (with a first view of our interim destination of Zavelstein Castle) and the sandstone bench of the century, unique documents from former spa guests, who gratefully report on their healing successes in the Teinach mineral springs, carved in stone. The path leads slightly downhill to the Devil's Bridge, a round arch bridge made of large sandstone blocks that is well worth seeing. However, we cross the Teinach quite adventurously on large stepping stones. The view of the magnificent Teinach valley with its original, weather-beaten hay huts conjures up holiday dreams. After these moments of contemplation, we pay attention to the traffic as we cross the L 374 and immediately afterwards the K 4329. Immediately after the second road crossing, the path turns right at an acute angle. We now enjoy the valley to the left of the Teinach as far as the viewpoint "Der Teinacher".
It's worth lingering here for a while, taking a look at the production facilities of Teinacher Mineralbrunnen GmbH and also preparing yourself mentally and practically for a vigorous climb. Take another sip of the healthy mineral water, put your warm clothes in your rucksack and off you go up the narrow paths through the Mathilden complex, which was built over 250 years ago. Many stone benches carved out of sandstone bear witness to the strolling paths of the nobility in earlier times. The more than 600 steps that follow, once built by Queen Mathilde, now take hikers up to the heights of Emberg. This ascent requires a certain level of fitness, sure-footedness and coordination.
Striking sandstone cliffs, dark forests and mystical forest patches accompany us on the eventful, albeit strenuous, ascent to the plateau. Wide pastures and a rest area await us there to catch our breath, dry our sweat and replenish our water supply. We enjoy the pleasant, clean mountain air on a meadow path along a wild hedge. Shortly before Emberg, our path branches off at a right angle. We soon enter the forest again and walk along a forest path to the Rötenbach stream. Here we take care not to miss the turn-off to the left into the gorge. A winding, wild path allows us to cross the small stream and the valley. We then head downhill on a forest path until we reach the "Berghütte" point. Here it is definitely worth taking the few metres to the left up to the hut, taking a short break and enjoying the view of the castle and the Heckengäu. Back on the forest path, the route continues downhill through a real fairytale forest.
Long lichens hang from the branches of the trees, dense moss makes it almost impossible to feel your footsteps and you get the feeling that fairies and goblins have their home everywhere in the forest. The dream is soon over, as the name of the gorge that follows, the Wolfsschlucht (Wolf Gorge), is reminiscent of the rather unpleasant times in the Black Forest. After some time on marvellous paths, we cross the Rötenbach at the "Feierabendbrückle" bridge. We head uphill towards the Schloßberghütte (a mountain hut made from local trees) and the Bad Teinach cemetery, which we pass above, past the former gardens of Teinach citizens.
At the end of the path, turn left uphill at an acute angle and then immediately right. We cross the L 346 and the path divides on the opposite side of the road. We take the fork to the left. The following ascent will get your circulation going again. Many staggered sections and some bizarre rock formations accompany us uphill. After about 15 minutes, we stand below the Hotel Berlins KroneLamm. Just a few more steps and we are on the market square in Zavelstein. It's worth stopping here for a cup of coffee and a delicious piece of cake. After this short break, we are transported back to the Middle Ages on our way through the old town. The ancient cobblestones lead us past old half-timbered houses, an old smithy, the former fortified church of St. George, a mighty fountain and directly across the moat to Zavelstein Castle.
A visit to the castle should definitely be included. Climbing the tower is rewarded with a unique panoramic view. Full of thoughts of knights and damsels, we descend through one of the castle gates back down into the Teinach valley. The popularly known 5-minute path leads the hiker to the half-height around Bad Teinach. At the first intersecting forest path, we turn left and hike comfortably along it until we reach a junction that leads us further into the valley to the right. On this path, we pay particular attention to the markings, as we leave the wide paths and continue northwards out of the valley on exciting, almost alpine trails. After a while, we are surprised by the "Adolfshöhe", a monument with a peculiar shape that cannot be assigned to any one architectural style or era. The "Teinacher" continues above old manor houses, further out into the valley. Here, too, we must not let ourselves be tempted by the wide forest path and are careful not to miss the turn-off to the Schillerhäusle.
A hut with an interesting past, as a sign tells us. A few more metres downhill through the forest and we come to the B 463, which we cross with caution. Opposite, we descend to the Teinach, cross it over the Langsche Brückle bridge and then immediately turn right into the unspoilt flora and fauna of the magnificent Teinach valley. From now on, we are accompanied by the soothing babbling of the Teinach and a uniquely unspoilt path that contributes to an almost meditative hike on the last stretch of this wonderfully varied, albeit somewhat challenging, pleasure hike. In summer, the first sounds of the Bad Teinach outdoor pool soon reveal that we have reached the end of our eventful hike.
An important hint should be given to the hiker.
Almost all of the steps and stairs that await us on the way are often irregular and natural, often in the forest, so that they can be quite slippery when it rains and is damp, which is why it is highly recommended to walk the "Teinacher" in the direction described here.
Ausrüstung
The path is demanding, so good and sturdy footwear is highly advisable.
Sicherheitshinweise
The best time to hike is April to October, although the Matthildenstaffeln can be slippery all year round if it is wet.
After heavy rain, the path at the Devil's Bridge can also be under water for a short time.
