Wegebeschaffenheit
Bernbach is an idyllic district of Bad Herrenalb. From here you start your forest-rich hike to the Bernstein and Tannschachberg. Wide forest paths alternate with rooty trails. The former Baden-Württemberg border is always within reach and sometimes directly beneath your hiking boots – numerous boundary stones line your way. From the Bernstein and hang glider launch site, you enjoy a fantastic view into the Rhine plain and beyond.
Autorentipp
With some luck, you can watch the hang gliders starting and flying at their launch site.
Wegbeschreibung
We start our route in Bernbach at the Spitzhütte and turn left towards "An der Heck", passing above the residential area and reach the next signpost of the Black Forest Association. Here we turn right onto the Bernbacher Steigle up to the Spitzweghütte and take the right onto the Spitzweg. This leads us directly to the Eckkopf springs, which used to supply water to Bernbach. After the springs, we go up the right path at the high seat and repeatedly catch a view of Bernbach. At the next cross path, we again follow the right on the Eckkopfweg until we cross the Heidenrücklesweg. We turn left onto this and follow it until we come to a larger junction with a picnic table.
After a short break, we follow the Mauzensteige to the left until we reach the Mauzenberghütte. After the hut, at the second high seat, we take the left meadow path and follow it over a forest clearing until we cross the Bernsteinweg. Here we go briefly right and at the next signpost turn left onto the historic border path to the Bernsteinfelsen. There we enjoy the view all the way to the Vosges.
At the Bernstein, we follow the signpost towards Sulzbacher Höhe and at the next signpost turn right towards Katzenbusch. At the crossroads, we again follow the Sandhüttenweg right and enjoy another view of the Murg valley. After the curve, on the left side, we discover an "AirForce Memorial", which is intended to commemorate the plane crash at the Bernstein after World War II. At the crossroads, we follow the Iltishaldenweg and then turn left onto the Breite Straße until we reach the Mauzenstein junction. Our path then leads us downhill to the left, although a short detour right uphill to the Mauzenstein is worth it.
From the Mauzenberg signpost, we take the path downhill on the left to the Am Mauzenberg signpost, here we turn left onto the Holländerweg towards the hang glider ramp. At the next high seat, we take the left path, the Heiligenwaldebeneweg, and follow it to a "turning circle". Here a detour left onto the meadow path is definitely worthwhile, as this leads you to the starting ramp of the hang gliders. With a bit of luck, a few gliders will even be starting right then. Please observe their instructions and do not walk over their gliders under any circumstances.
Back at the turning circle, you go down the path to the left and pass the old wooden hang glider ramp. Attention, entering is not permitted here! Passing the ramp, we go down to the right and follow the meadow path until we reach the wider gravel path. At the next junction, we turn left onto the Holländersteige and follow it until we arrive again at our starting point at the Spitzhütte.
Due to delivery difficulties in spring, the signage is temporary.
Ausrüstung
Sturdy footwear.
Hiking poles can be helpful on the partly rocky paths.
Sicherheitshinweise
