Description
The approximately 11 km long Rötenbachschlucht premium trail, which is located in the "Wutachschlucht" nature reserve, leads you along challenging paths through the unspoilt Rötenbach gorge to the mouth of the Wutach. After a climb, you reach the "Am Hörnle" viewpoint. Take a break and enjoy the magnificent view as far as the Feldberg and across the gorge landscape. The trail then leads back and crosses the Rötenbach stream again at Roßgraben. You return to Rötenbach through the magical Krebsgraben.
Author's recommendation
An ant trail can be discovered while hiking! This is especially recommended for families.
Directions
You start your tour at the Hardt hiking parking lot and head towards Rötenbachschlucht gorge. In the narrow, wild and romantic gorge with its many small waterfalls, you pass the Rötenbachschluchthütte and cross numerous small bridges to reach the mouth of the Rötenbach in the Wutachschlucht. After a breather, you start the ascent towards Hörnle and cross a pristine forest. Once you reach Hörnle, you can take a short break and enjoy the view, including the Feldberg. Continue in the direction of Krebsgraben and, after crossing it, you will reach the Rötenbacher Wiesen nature reserve. Especially in May and June (leashes are compulsory), you can encounter a variety of rare plants and animals here. Follow the ant trail towards Rötenbach and the starting point of the tour. This tour runs through two nature reserves: the "Wutachschlucht" and the "Rötenbacher Wiesen". It is therefore important to keep to the nature conservation lines.
Equipment
We recommend sturdy shoes!
Safety information
The gorges are divided into different rescue sectors, all of which are signposted. In emergencies, they enable the mountain rescue service to find your location better and faster. Therefore, please always pay attention to which sector you are in.
As you do not always have cell phone reception in the gorges, you may have to walk out of the gorge or a little further into the gorge in order to contact the mountain rescue service from there.
Please follow the recommended walking direction!
The Rötenbach trail is not suitable for baby carriages, but can be walked with children if they are sure-footed.
The path is suitable for dogs. Due to the steps and narrow paths, please keep your dog on a lead and watch out for other hikers.

"Open your eyes" is the motto on the Black Forest premium hiking trails. Every trail has a stamping point in the form of a cuckoo clock. These offer the opportunity to document your hikes with stamps in your Hochschwarzwälder Wanderpass. Further information can be found on our website.
