Sasbachwalden awaits you with enchanting nature experiences, a wide range of sports and leisure activities, cosy village life and delicious culinary delights. Let yourself be infected by our hospitality!
Travelling south through the Rhine plain, you will see the Black Forest mountains rising on your left from Karlsruhe. In front of them, orchards blossom in spring and the colourful, mottled vineyards of Baden shine in autumn. Wide valleys stretch into the low mountain range. As you reach Achern, your gaze lingers on the imposing SWR transmitter mast on the Hornisgrinde. Below it, the houses of Sasbachwalden lie like white dots on the meadow- and forest-green slope.
The flower and wine village spreads its houses and farms between 200 and 800 metres above sea level along a seven-kilometre-long panoramic road. The listed village centre with its half-timbered houses is surrounded by vineyards and chestnut woods. In between are small gardens, the view sweeps over orchards and vineyards. The vineyards here rise up to 500 metres, with stately wineries in the middle.
Thanks to the sunny location on the western edge of the Black Forest, excellent Burgundy wines, Riesling and Müller-Thurgau thrive on the granite and slate weathered soils. The Pinot Noir wines from Alde Gott Winzer Schwarzwald eG are among the most highly awarded in Germany. Around 380 winegrowers belong to the winegrowers' co-operative. The Königsrain, Klostergut Schelzberg and S'Wilde Weingut wineries also produce award-winning wines.
The holiday region stretches all the way up to the Black Forest High Road and the 1164 metre-high summit of the Hornisgrinde. In addition to Sasbachwalden, it includes the neighbouring wine villages of Sasbach-Obersasbach and Lauf on the Baden Wine Route and the Ortenau Wine Trail.
Numerous restaurants, inns, snack bars and three wineries line the seven-kilometre-long valley road up to the 800-metre-high Brandmatt district. Gourmets can choose between local and international cuisine and Baden-Alsatian cookery.
Holidaymakers interested in culture will appreciate the proximity to Baden-Baden and Offenburg on the west side and Freudenstadt on the east side of the Black Forest. The cities are only around 30 kilometres away, while Strasbourg in Alsace is just under 40 kilometres away.
Hikers and strollers will be surprised by the ups and downs of the vineyards: Fruit schnapps, liqueurs and fine brandies in the cool spring water of the schnapps fountains. For a small fee, everyone is free to help themselves. This is particularly tempting on summer evenings when the sun sets behind the Vosges mountains in the west.
The Alde Gott Panorama Trail leads around the main town. The ten-kilometre-long premium trail is also a Black Forest gourmet trail. It starts at the Gaishölle gorge and takes hikers to the first inn after 13 bridges and 225 steps. There are a total of five inns along the route through chestnut forests, meadows and vineyards. Schnapps fountains and beautiful panoramic views invite you to take a break.
Sasbachwalden is one of over 180 KONUS towns in the Black Forest. The KONUS guest card for Sasbachwalden is also a free ticket for public transport buses and trains in the entire holiday region between Karlsruhe and Basel. This makes it easy to organise excursions, shopping and hiking tours.
