The Schellenberg chapel was built in thanks for the end of the cattle plague. The people vowed to build a chapel to St Wendelinus if their domestic animals were spared - and this promise was fulfilled in 1717.
From 1996 to 1999, the chapel was extensively restored thanks to donations and voluntary labour from the local population.
In honour of the patron saint, Saint Wendelin, the Schellenberger Chilbi takes place in October. St Wendelin is the patron saint of country folk, especially shepherds and domestic animals.
