The Schluchsee lies in the middle of the Black Forest Highlands at an altitude of 930 metres above sea level, has a length of 7.5 km and a maximum width of 1.5 km.
With a water surface area of 5.14 km² and a depth of 62 metres, the Schluchsee is the largest Black Forest lake and is also the largest lake in Baden-Württemberg.
As the water sports centre in the Black Forest, Schluchsee has been one of the cleanest bathing lakes in Germany for years. The marvellous landscape around the lake offers wonderful hiking and biking tours.

The Schluchsee became famous throughout Germany under the name "Schlucksee" because the German national football team set up their training camp there in 1982 and individual players took full advantage of the freedom that national coach Jupp Derwall gave them. Alcohol, card games and other escapades cast a bad light on the later runners-up in the World Cup.
