From Ruhestein, the trail leads downhill after crossing the Schwarzwaldhochstraße. Shortly after passing the barbecue area, turn left and the hiking trail leads through the unspoilt mountain forest up to the Kernhof. As you leave the forest, you are greeted by the sight of the beautifully situated high alpine pasture area. The self-catering station "S'alte Lifthisli" is within sight. After a rest, the trail leads down the meadow via a path, later alternating between descending and ascending to the Scherzenfelsen rock with a wonderful view of Seebach. You reach the Fuchsmichelhof farm through a seemingly unspoilt wooded area, where you can rest in the Almpfadhüttle (self-catering). Further on, the Brennte Schrofen with a view of Ottenhöfen awaits you before you reach the plateau with lush meadows and later the Karl-Ross-Weg back to Ruhestein with two refreshment stops and the National Park Centre.
