The Old Ölberg is not only a vineyard landscape but also a light deciduous forest with beautiful linden stands on the rock reefs in the east. This circular route opens up (almost) the entire mountain for you. Thanks to the many thematic boards – expertly created by the Freiburg Archaeology Workshop – there is concentrated information on history and nature. You come from the vineyards into the shade of the forest and visit one of the oldest settlement finds in southern Baden, the Stone Age Devil's Kitchen (= rock shelters in the Jurassic rock). Naturally, the view at the Ölberg chapel is not neglected: Vosges, Burgundian Gate, Jura, Black Forest, and Upper Rhine Graben – your mouth will definitely stay open!

The Stone Age caves provide material for children to explore for at least an hour (follow the small path to the rear caves and the medieval fortification – but please watch out for falling rocks and slippery paths!
Nice dining opportunity at the end of the route: Gasthof Löwen just about 30 meters west of the church – and opposite the new Heitzmann Café with a great outdoor seating by the Möhlin – including free feet dipping in the stream!

At the church of St. Georg, choose the stairs along the church garden to the Way of the Cross. You quickly leave its asphalt path to turn onto a comfortable vine path along historic dry stone walls. From this, a meadow path branches off through the vines, which soon leads into an adventurous shrub forest. Here continue on a narrow path to the Stone Age caves – a bit of sure-footedness is required! Behind the Stone Age caves, go down to the Möhlin and soon after climb again on a forest path to the so-called Kuckucksbad – an idyllic old quarry. You circle the Ölberg on its north side and climb the forest path almost to the summit, then level off to the chapel. From there, go down the Way of the Cross to the church.
The entire path has been separately marked as the "Stone Age Path" since 2017 and is equipped with many information boards. A special route guide is available at the tourist information points of the holiday region as well as in the plexiglass box at the entrance portals (St. Georg, Ehrenstetten & Kuckucksbad parking lot, Bollschweil)

Sicherheitshinweise
The narrow paths are often slippery after rain due to calcareous weathering clay. Therefore, profiled soles are mandatory. At the Devil's Kitchen, you stand under an overhanging rock – falling rocks are especially possible after frosty nights!
