The "Frischglück" visitor mine was one of 17 larger mines in the Neuenbürg mining district. Iron ore with a very high manganese content and low sulfur content was mined here over 3 levels and transported by oxcarts to Freudenstadt for smelting. With the arrival of high-quality iron ore from Sweden, mining was no longer profitable and was abandoned. Unlike other mines in the Neuenbürg area, the Frischglück pit is not "mined out", i.e. the iron ore is not completely mined out, so that visitors can see the beautiful ore formations (glass heads) and barite deposits.
