The hike initially leads along the Wiedenbach stream until you reach the Gertelbach valley at the Gertelbachhütte. The romantic Gertelbach waterfalls are soon reached and the trail climbs steeply up to the Wiedenfelsen rock , where a beautiful view awaits the hiker. The view is directed towards the Bühlerhöhe and the Herta hut and the rock formations there. The route continues uphill to the beautifully designed chapel "Zum Guten Hirten", which invites you to linger here at the top of the pass on the sand. Here at the pass is the former Sand spa hotel and the Bismark monument opposite. After a few steps you reach the "Bergwaldhütte am Sand" for a rest. Here we continue in the direction of Plättig and Bühlerhöhe. Cross the B500 at the former Hotel Plättig and take a short detour to the Maria Frieden chapel on the Marienfelsen rock. It was consecrated in 1960 by the son of former German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, Monsignor Dr Paul Adenauer. Due to its location, the church offers sweeping views of the Rhine Valley. The modern stained glass windows with Marian motifs are well worth seeing. Our hike now takes us on a detour to the Herta Hütte and the Falkenfelsen. We return to the main route, from where we return to the starting point with beautiful views.
