Bad Rippoldsau-Schapbach has around 2,100 inhabitants and is situated at an altitude of between 400 and 900 metres above sea level on the southern slope of the Kniebis, around 15 km from Freudenstadt. The dual municipality in the wild and romantic Wolftal valley offers numerous opportunities for leisure and holiday activities in the great outdoors. Natural spectacles such as the Burgbach waterfall, one of the highest free-falling natural waterfalls in Germany, the Glaswaldsee lake, a wildly romantic cirque lake or the large red sandstone block "Kastelstein" are attractive hiking destinations that can be reached on unspoilt paths. The premium hiking trail "Klösterle-Schleife" with 8 km and approx. 300 metres of elevation gain is one of the most popular circular hiking trails in the region. The heart of every mountain biker, with or without a tailwind, beats faster as they explore the beauty of the Wolftal valley over hill and dale with breathtaking views, for example on the Kupferberg.
A special attraction in Bad Rippoldsau-Schapbach is the alternative wolf and bear park. Bears, wolves and lynxes from non-species-appropriate animal husbandry are once again given a natural home in a 10-hectare area. The Forest Culture House in the Holzwald district tells the story of the old forms of forest management such as rafts, giants and resins, which served as a livelihood for the forest farmers in the Wolftal valley. You will learn interesting facts about the forest and the different tree species. The information boards on the geology of the Wolftal are interesting and the beekeeper's trail sheds light on the work of the busy bees.
The idyllic, heated Wolftal forest adventure pool, located right on the edge of the forest and on the Wolf river, is a special attraction. Young and old water lovers will find a wide wave slide, a separate children's pool, a non-swimmer's pool and a swimmer's pool.
Forest swimming, mini golf, volleyball and alpaca hikes are other leisure activities on offer.
