Moonshiners may be called moonshiners in his home country, but everything is legal here - when the distillery is in operation, customs keep an eye on everything. Moonshine is a white whisky with a high alcohol content produced by moonshiners, i.e. not stored in barrels, explains Smith. It is bottled and sold immediately in glasses. There have been many moonshiners like this in his family - he is the first in five generations to distil legally, he explains.
The family recipe, good ingredients and care form the basis for the small production. Just as he can realise his dream here with simple means, he would not be able to do so in the USA, says Smith. High investments are necessary there to fulfil the prescribed requirements and to be able to survive on the market.
In his new home country, he wants to establish himself as a small but particularly fine niche provider. The concept includes not only the authentic story of the traditional moonshine distillery and his own family in America, as well as the high quality he is striving for, but also the fact that as many of the ingredients as possible should come from within a small radius.
