The Sankenbachsee is one of five cirque lakes in the Baiersbronn district. The cirque lake was formed by glaciation during the last and penultimate ice age.
The lake and the neighbouring wet meadows form a valuable biotope, which is why it is now a nature reserve.
Near the lake are the waterfalls, a barbecue area, the game reserve and a playground. The Sankenbach valley is therefore ideal for a family hike.
