First mentioned in 1290, Lichteneck Castle is one of the oldest castles in Breisgau. Visible from afar, it lies on a south-facing spur of the castle hill near Hecklingen.
Built by the Counts of Freiburg and acquired by marriage by the Counts Palatine of Tübingen, the Counts of Tübingen-Lichteneck ruled here until 1661.
