The varied landscape rewards pedaling with exciting views and insights. From Hirsau Monastery, the route leads higher into the Black Forest: on the second stage it continues upstream, following the Nagold, through Calw and through the shepherds’ town Wildberg to Nagold. There, the route follows the signs to Altensteig and then towards "Erzgrube." Together with the cycle path "Fachwerkstraße," it shortly enters the Zinsbach valley after Altensteig and follows it uphill to the Waldsäg mill and further to Kälberbronn. The Klosterroute by bike – an impressive experience.
The bike route leads from Hirsau Monastery back along "Wildbader Straße," over the roundabout and to the right into "Uhland Straße," and further into Calw, 2 km away. After passing through Calw’s industrial area, we use the traffic light to cross the district road straight ahead onto "Inselgasse." On the square in front of the Sparkasse, turn half left into "Lederstraße" (!!!walk speed here!!!). At the end of the pedestrian zone, the route turns right and immediately left into "Marktstraße," past the Hermann Hesse fountain, and straight into "Badstraße." After about 500 m, the route continues straight into "Walkmühlweg" and follows the next 2 km of the paved road to Tanneneck.
Then we switch to the cycle path parallel to the B 463 and follow it about 1 km to Kentheim. After passing through Kentheim, the route continues along the federal road, and after another kilometer in Teinachtal, at the end of the cycle path, switches to L 347. In front of the info pavilions, turn left into "Neubulacher Straße," then after about 100 m turn left again onto a farm road. The route then continues below the power plant towards Kohlerstal. After the railway bridge, there is a short very steep climb (watch for oncoming traffic!). Then it continues slightly up and down about 2 km to Kohlerstal. In Kohlerstal, turn left through the village and continue on the paved farm road along the Nagold to Talmühle. At Talmühle, the route continues straight and follows the road slightly uphill to Seitzental. In the village center, turn off, go left downhill towards the forest edge, and then follow the paved farm road towards Wildberg for the next 3.5 km. At the end of the industrial area of Wildberg, the bike route turns right, goes under the railway, and then turns left parallel to the tracks to Wildberg station.
After crossing the tracks, the route turns left downhill onto "Talstraße." At the intersection with B 463, turn right onto the cycle-pedestrian path. After about 100 m, the path ends, and we use the left turn lane to cross "Talstraße" towards "Sulzerstraße." Before the bridge, turn right onto a paved cycle-pedestrian path along the Nagold. After about 400 m, cross a wooden bridge to the other side of the Nagold. After about 1 km, we reach the ruins of Reuthin Monastery.
After the monastery, the bike route runs above the parking lot and then turns right onto a well-paved farm road. This follows the Nagold, with slight ups and downs, about 5.5 km towards Emmingen. At Pfrondorf mill, at the height of the bridge, continue straight onto the district road. After about 100 m uphill, the route turns right onto a paved cycle-pedestrian path. This goes downhill again to a wooden bridge over the Nagold. Then we turn left and follow about 1.5 km of the cycle-pedestrian path below the B 463 towards Nagold. After passing under the B 463, there is a very steep climb of about 50 m to the right (watch for oncoming traffic!). Then the route goes left onto a paved farm road along the forest edge, about 2 km to the outskirts of Nagold.
At the next bridge, turn left and cross the Nagold, then immediately turn right onto "Neuwiesenweg." The route now follows the paved riverside path along the Nagold to "Lange Straße." There, the bike route continues straight on to "Unterm Wehr" street. After about 300 m, turn left onto "Oberamteistraße" and ride past "Maiergasse" to "Marktstraße." Here, turn right and follow the street to "Waldachstraße."
From here, the route follows the cycling signposts towards Altensteig. First, turn right into "Waldachstraße" and before the bus station, turn right over the Waldach stream onto "Freudenstädter Straße" towards the roundabout. At the roundabout, take the first exit and continue along "Freudenstädter Straße." After about 400 m, the route reaches another roundabout and again takes the first exit along "Freudenstädter Straße." Shortly before the third roundabout at the intersection with "Uferstraße," turn onto a cycle-pedestrian path, right past the roundabout and continue parallel to B 28.
After the bridge over the Nagold, the cycle path bends right and goes around the parking lot. Then ride about 2.5 km on the cycle-pedestrian path along B 28 to Rohrdorf. In Rohrdorf, the route continues along the cycle path always beside the federal road towards Ebhausen. After passing through Ebhausen, continue another 4 km along the federal road on the cycle path towards "Berneck station." About 600 m after "Monharder Wasserstube," the cycle path leaves B 28 and climbs halfway right to L 348. The cycle path ends there, and the route continues on the country road towards "Berneck station." At the junction to Berneck, turn left and return to the federal road towards Altensteig. At the B 28 junction, turn right onto the cycle-pedestrian path and follow the federal road about 1 km to Altensteig.
After the roundabout on the outskirts of Altensteig, the route follows the cycling signs to "Erzgrube" and turns left into "Bahnhofstraße." At the end of "Bahnhofstraße," continue straight onto "Rosenstraße." This climbs gently to the intersection with "Karlstraße," where the route turns right and follows the street uphill. After the church, turn left into "Jahnstraße" and downhill to the sports field. At the end of the sports field, the route turns left to L 351. There, turn left over the Nagold, only to turn right into "Obere Talsstraße" after the bridge.
The bike route now follows the street to the sports grounds and then runs parallel to the industrial canal onto a cycle path. After about 300 m, the route crosses the canal and continues on a paved farm road. This continues towards Erzgrube and after a few meters turns right onto a cycle-pedestrian path downhill to the bridge over the Zinsbach. The route then climbs in a right curve in front of the fish ponds to K 4358.
At the junction with the district road, turn left and follow the street towards Kohlsägmühle. At Kohlsägmühle, the route turns left into "Zinsbachstraße" and follows the cycling signs towards Freudenstadt. The route climbs for the next 4 km along the lightly traveled road, past Reesenmühle to above Zinbachmühle. There, switch to a gravel farm road towards Waldsäg mill. After 2 km, cross K 4726 and continue along the farm road. After another 3 km, reach Waldsäg mill. There, turn left onto K 4729 and follow the road uphill to Kälberbronn, 2 km away.
