The hike begins at Kandern railway station, past the Palmgarten signpost in the direction of the swimming pool. From the campsite, the route follows the Lippisbach valley. At the Neuenburg junction, turn left towards Probstwald and uphill to St. Johannis-Breite, from where you have a great view of the Eggenertal valley. After crossing the country road and after approx. 500 metres, turn left along a path into the forest, uphill to Bürgeln Castle, where the baroque castle invites you to linger. The way back leads through the Klosterhalde to Lippisbach and uphill through the Schnegelbach valley to Lindenbückle. The route continues past the Sausenburg ruins, where you take the Wässerliwald turn-off to the Lange Ebene hut and the Hässler viewpoint on the Heißbühl, back to Kandern.
