The districts of the villages extend from the foothills of the Black Forest to the Klotzen area and across the Niedertrasse to the lowlands of the Rhine floodplain. The landscape is characterised by agriculture and forestry (around 770 hectares of woodland) and extensive vineyards (over 200 hectares of vines).
Viticulture in our municipality owes its special reputation to its excellent sites. Agriculture, which once dominated, now provides a livelihood for only a few full-time farms. Wine, fruit and asparagus growing is mostly practised as a sideline. Many craftsmen and tradespeople have now settled here and provide jobs for the local population.
The municipality's location at the gateway to the cities of Basel, Weil am Rhein and Lörrach makes it a favoured local recreation area. Numerous hiking trails, an educational wine trail, the idyllic banks of the Rhine (approx. 10 km long) with the Istein thresholds, the Klotzen area with its rare fauna and flora, which is a nature reserve, as well as magnificent oak and beech forests invite you to relax and unwind.
The infrastructure of the municipality is very well developed. Kindergartens as well as primary schools, secondary schools and secondary modern schools are available. There is a well-developed network of roads, supply and disposal lines.
