Client:
Town of Zell am Hamersbach
Completion:
2020
Description:
The new entrance to the swimming pool is a cube with a flat roof projecting to the east, which contains the ticket office with staff room and a bathroom.
Material/construction:
A circumferential plinth was arranged on the reinforced concrete floor slab so that the 35 cm thick, load-bearing rammed earth walls erected on top are protected from splash water, giving the façade a distinctive appearance. Their horizontal structure is the result of the rammed earth layers and the trass lime layer, which is inserted every 30-40 cm. It prevents the façade from being washed out too much by slowing down the rainwater running off. The untreated rammed earth walls are complemented by an untreated cross-laminated timber ceiling. The roofing is designed as a green roof.
Sustainability:
Thanks to the resource-conscious concept, the building can be easily sorted into its individual components in the event of demolition. The clay can be recycled and used in a new location. Due to the exclusive use in summer and the positive properties of the clay, it was possible to dispense with heating and air conditioning.
The bottom line:
Clay earth used in its original form shows what is possible with this building material typical of the Black Forest - for example, that no building services are required thanks to its positive properties and exclusive use in summer.
