Over 400 years ago, a flood destroyed the only bridge in Forbach. Carpenters were sent to Augsburg to see the model of a flood-proof suspension bridge.
However, it was not until 200 years later, in 1778, that a covered wooden bridge without centre pillars was built. This bridge lasted almost 200 years and was demolished in 1954 / 55 and rebuilt according to the old plans.
The covered (and passable) wooden bridge has thus characterised the Forbach townscape for over 200 years. Its design is unique in Germany and even in Europe. A view from the banks of the Murg up into the bridge arch gives an impression of the high standard of carpentry at that time.
