The Black Forest Highlands summit trail can be easily divided into three stages. Overnight accommodation is available in hotels, guesthouses and campsites along the route.
Your first stage (approx. 62 km) takes you from Neustadt via Titisee and Hinterzarten to Todtnau. A detour to the highest point in the Black Forest, the Feldberg summit, which is halfway between the Haus der Natur and the Todtnauer Hüttte, is definitely worthwhile.
In Todtnau, the Hasenhorn lift can be used as an option to transport your mountain bike to the top. On your tour, you will ride through pristine forests, across secluded high pastures and panoramic mountains such as the Stübenwasen, from where you can see as far as the Alps and the Vosges on a clear day.
On the second stage (approx. 50 km), you cycle from Todtnau via Schluchsee to Rothaus. Here, it's worth packing your swimming gear to refresh yourself in the cool waters of the Schluchsee or Schlüchtsee lakes. A visit to the Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus brewery is also a great way to take a breather.
There are hardly any natural water sources on this stage. It is therefore important to take enough water with you. Of course, this applies to all stages.
On your third stage (approx. 28 km), you cycle back to the starting point from Rothaus via Lenzkirch to Neustadt. You can also take a short break here and visit the Hochfirstschanze in Neustadt, for example.
