The ascent to the Herzogenhorn is rewarded with a distant view over the mountains of the southern Black Forest all the way to the Alps. If you wish, you can sign the summit book at the summit cross or enjoy a well-earned snack during a rest stop.
Hiking tip: If you want to hike directly from Bernau to the Herzogenhorn, it is best to start at the hikers' car park in the Hof district. It takes a good 1.5 hours to cover the three kilometres and 500 metres in altitude. The trail climbs steeply through mixed mountain forests and pasture fields. The summit cross is finally reached via the wide, meadowy ridge of the Herzogenhorn. An orientation board shows you which Alpine and Black Forest peaks you can see.
Refreshment tip: After around half an hour's descent from the summit, you will reach the rustic Krunkelbachhütte mountain inn, located above the Bernauer Hochtal valley. Hikers can also spend the night here. From there, there are several paths between 1 and 1.5 hours back to Bernau, district of Hof.
