Haslach is a very old town, the first settlement is already proven as a Roman road station in the 1st century AD. Haslach experienced its first heyday in the 13th century, when the small town, seat of the "Bergrichter", became the center of an important Black Forest silver mining district. From the 17th century onwards, Haslach developed further as a market town.
Its market streets and squares, wide for the time, have been completely preserved to this day and, together with the narrow residential and craftsmen's alleys, give the picturesque old town center a unique flair.
It was the harmony of the half-timbered old town that led to the Haslach old town being listed as a whole as early as 1978. Haslach has been a member of the "German Half-Timbered House Route" since 2001. Numerous fountains and small monuments excellently round off the rare ensemble.
Fortunately, its function as a market and trading place has been completely preserved. Haslach still has over 90 market days a year. In addition to the weekly market on Saturdays, there are numerous large annual markets, small animal markets, summer markets, special shows, antique and flea markets (the tourist information office has a list of market days available). Numerous small stores, storefronts, cafés, bistros and restaurants make the traffic-calmed half-timbered old town a lively experience.
