The mighty Birndorf village church bears witness to the Romanesque architectural style, the originality of which cannot be found anywhere else in the region. The differently designed capitals of the two rows of columns are striking. During the last renovation, the modern stone altar, ambo (not ambo) and tabernacle were integrated into the historic walls.
The existence of a church in Birndorf is proven beyond doubt by a document from St. Gallen in 874; the current parish church was probably built around 1087. The Romanesque structure of the parish church is a three-nave, five-bay, flat-roofed columned basilica with a crossing.
