Design
The brief was for a free-standing building with space for a shop, restaurant, offices and technology. The design is based on the abstraction of the centuries-old building form of the Black Forest farmhouses with their hipped roofs. The translation into the present day has been achieved through the modification and partial dissolution of the half-timbered exterior walls and the choice of materials for the roof cladding. The result is a timber construction in keeping with the times. The transparent design makes the construction tangible and conveys traditional values.

Sustainability / energy concept
The energy centre is located in the basement, where state-of-the-art technology in the form of the wastewater power plant generates electricity for the entire site from the wastewater of the municipality of Hinterzarten and a combined heat and power plant is operated with wood chips from our own production.

The bottom line
Realisation of the theme "historical form of the Black Forest farmhouse" in modern times. In terms of form and materialisation, the building is reminiscent of the characteristic Black Forest architecture of the single-roofed farmhouse with a hipped roof. In its appearance, however, the imposing glass roof provides light and air for modernity. Inside, quality, tradition and craftsmanship are omnipresent.
