"Man trifft sich.... auf dem Wochenmarkt" (Der Marktplatz)

Fresh and regional products can be purchased every Tuesday and Friday at the Kehl weekly market. Florists present their flowers at their colourful market stalls. Local farmers sell fresh fruit and vegetables. A fish cart, butchers and other traders enrich the extensive and varied offer. At lunchtime, the market with its many food stalls is a meeting place for colleagues and citizens of the town.

In the centre of the market square, the statue of"Mother Kinzig" commemorates a tragic moment in the town's history. The metal sculptures "Mother Kinzig" and "Father Rhine" stood opposite each other on the entrance portal of the railway bridge for almost ten years until it was blown up during a bombing raid in 1870. Both statues sank into the Rhine. Years later, "Mother Kinzig" was found again during excavation work and now stands on the market square as a reminder of the Franco-Prussian War. However, there is still no trace of "Father Rhine".
