The valley community of the "Valley of a Hundred Valleys" gathers a good 5,000 inhabitants in an area of almost 70 square kilometres. Originating from the former mining town of Münster at the foot of the St. Trudpert monastery, today the community is characterised by widely scattered settlement centres. A new centre has formed around the railway station. Outside of the valley settlements, pretty Black Forest farms amidst their meadows and pastures dominate the picture. Since 2013, Münstertal has been a highly predicatised health resort with its healing gallery in the former Teufelsgrund silver mine. As a climatic health resort, Münstertal, together with the neighbouring municipality of Hofsgrund, has been at the top of the nationwide ranking of places with the cleanest air for years. The valley backdrop is dominated by the Belchen (1414m) with its north face, known as the "Eiger of the Black Forest". A hike from the bottom of the valley to its summit crosses the largest mountain-valley divide of any German low mountain range. The hiking and cycling opportunities are correspondingly varied. Over 200 km of signposted hiking trails - including nationally recognised trails such as the Belchensteig, themed trails and four wilderness trails - provide almost limitless hiking pleasure. 100 km of MTB routes with two single trails attract sporty mountain bikers. For years, Münstertal has also been the start and finish point of Germany's toughest road bike marathon, the "Schwarzwald Super!".
More than 100 holiday flats - often integrated into pretty Black Forest farms - ensure your holiday happiness. In addition to the nationally renowned Romantikhotel Spielweg, smaller family-run inns and hotels in particular bring Baden hospitality to life. The Münstertal campsite is an international leader in terms of facilities, comfort and leisure options.
Thanks to the KONUS guest card and the Münstertalbahn railway, guests in the valley have free and convenient access to the entire border triangle.
