The Nature Park Gravel Crossing takes you from Mannheim to Basel. The 690 km long route with 14,000 metres of climbing is divided into 11 suggested stages. These can of course be varied depending on your fitness and desire.
As you cross the 4 nature parks, you will gain a variety of impressions of the forest and meadow landscape of the southern Odenwald, the Kraichgau wine region and the densely wooded low mountain ridges of the Black Forest.
Along the route, beautiful views and various sights invite you to linger:
The first stages in the Neckartal-Odenwald Nature Park, for example, lead past the Teltschikturm, which offers fantastic views over the Odenwald and Rhine Valley, and Guttenberg Castle, which towers high above the Neckar. In the Stromberg-Heuchelberg Nature Park, you pass the Ehmetsklinge bathing lake in Zaberfeld with the nearby nature park centre and the UNESCO World Heritage Site Maulbronn Monastery.
The route continues through the Central/North Black Forest Nature Park, where it takes you past the unique high moorland landscape on the Kaltenbronn and enchanted cirque lakes.
In the Southern Black Forest Nature Park, you pass the Triberg waterfalls, which are among the highest in Germany, and climb the Feldberg, the highest mountain in the Black Forest.
The suggested stages end in towns with various accommodation options. There are many bed & bike-certified accommodations along the route, as well as trekking camps or campsites in some places. The huts along the route are particularly cosy. Reservations are advisable during holiday periods.
We have deliberately decided against having our own signposting for the Nature Park Gravel Crossing so as not to put up any more signs in the woods and meadows. Navigation is therefore purely digital.
