While exploring Schönwald, you will discover the Cuckoo Clock Monument, which commemorates Franz Ketterer and his invention. It is located in front of the former clockmaker's workshop "Höfle". Just outside the village is the Heilklima trail. Hike and breathe in the fresh air on this 11.5 km trail around the spa town of Schönwald. The healthy and invigorating mountain air at an altitude of up to 1,150 meters is said to be particularly beneficial to performance and health. For families, a trip to the Reinertonishof is worthwhile: The listed building has a small museum and a small restaurant. Here you can taste the specialties from the in-house ham smokehouse. Horse-drawn carriage rides and pony rides are available for children.
Around Schönwald you can explore nature on foot on 58 km of hiking trails, including the Heilklima-Steig. Highlights include "forest bathing," narrow paths and trails, and relaxation loungers with views of Schönwald. Go faster and further over the ridge of the Schönwaldwälder Höhenrücken mountain. The rental station offers a selection of the latest bikes for a fast ride. On warm summer days, a visit to the solar-heated natural outdoor pool is a must. Children will find plenty of opportunities to play with and in the water. The nearby spa park offers a classic miniature golf course and several boule courts. Passionate golfers will enjoy the 9-hole family golf course near the Hotel Ochsen.
If you visit Schönwald during the winter months, you will find various winter sports facilities such as a toboggan run, two ski lifts with two kilometers of slopes as well as 40 kilometers of cross-country ski trails for extensive cross-country skiing tours in classic or skating style. The Rothaus Cross-Country Ski Center is the starting point for many cross-country ski trails and a training center for ambitious athletes. You can take it easy on the 45 km of winter trails and enjoy the magic of the snow-covered landscape. At the end of a day of winter activities, a visit to the indoor swimming pool with a water temperature of up to 31°C is a great way to keep warm.
