You start by riding along the Forbach and down to Baiersbronn, then upriver along the Murg via Mitteltal towards Obertal. Past the lovely Buhlbachsee lake you start a steep ascent to the Schwarzwaldhochstrasse, with its fairy tale views over the Black Forest's peaks and valleys.
Wegbeschreibung
From Freudenstadt, follow the Tour de Murg bike trail along the Forbach via Christophstal and Friedrichstal towards Baiersbronn. From here the trail follows the Murg upstream via Mitteltal and Obertal and then on to Buhlbachsaue. Then it's a long climb (with stunning views) on the Schwarzwald Radweg all the way to the Schwarzwaldhochstrasse. From the Bärenteichhütte we recommend a short detour to the Buhlbachsee, an ice Age lake known as one of the northern Black Forest's "dark eyes". On the Schwarzwaldhochstrasse, turn left onto the B500 to Zuflucht, from where a bike path takes you to Alexanderschanze. Take the B28 for 500 metres, then it's left via a forest track to Kniebis, where one of the highlights of the tour awaits: the magnificent view over the Ellbachsee lake and Mitteltal all the way to the Hornisgrinde, the northern Black Forest's highest peak. Continue on to Kniebis-Dorf (where there are abbey ruins and an open-air pool) and to the Abendwiese, where you can stop for a BBQ. The bike trail now takes you through the Forbachtal, past Langenbrunnenweiher (BBQ facilities) to the Langenwaldsee lake, and from there it's upwards via the Bässler Brücke bridge back to Freudenstadt.
