Teningen is located between Kaiserstuhl and the Black Forest in the fertile Upper Rhine Valley around 20 kilometres north of Freiburg on the River Elz. The municipality with the districts of Bottingen, Heimbach, Köndringen, Landeck and Nimburg is surrounded by sparse forests and fertile vineyards.
The Protestant church in Teningen with its medieval animal frescoes, the town hall square with its late Gothic stepped gable house from the 16th century and the old castle in the Heimbach district bear witness to the municipality's 1000-year history. The Menton local history museum is housed in a well-preserved farmstead from the 18th century. The permanent exhibition presents the local economic and social history. One of the most beautiful castle ruins in Breisgau towers over the district of Landeck. The two-part complex - consisting of the upper castle and lower castle - dates back to the 13th century. It stands on a limestone rock and is freely accessible.
Three bathing lakes tempt visitors with their cool waters on hot days. For hiking and biking, you can quickly reach the nearby Black Forest mountains. From there, you can let your gaze wander down into the Rhine Valley. Or you can hike the Kaiserstuhl, with its hollow paths and vineyards a varied hiking area. The nearby town of Emmendingen invites you to take a stroll.
