From there, the stream makes its way through the beautiful valley of Todtnauberg, where it is joined by other clear mountain streams. Then it cascades over a huge granite massif and across two plateaus into the depths of the valley.
The natural waterfall has been under monumental protection since 1987. It is one of the most beautiful natural monuments in Germany. More than 400,000 visitors come to see this unique natural spectacle each year. In the cold winter nights, the waterfall freezes into a bizarre formation of oversized icicles. It is quite dangerous to walk there and therefore it can be closed in winters.
Extensive building work has made the waterfall wheelchair accessible.
